REPERTOIRE SENTIMENTAL CONCERT
An intimate concert format is proposed where storytelling and singing are performed simultaneously, with the desire to awaken emotions and feelings in the audience. A proposal where the song is the key to describe us as ‘sensitive beings’.
It has been the permanent search for sound, influenced by jazz language, that has led the members of this duo to achieve, through improvisation, the perfect balance between well-known author’s songs and self-composed arrangements.
ABOUT US
Interested in the art of free improvisation and sound experimentation, the paths of this duo cross for the first time in the great cosmopolitan city of Brussels in 2019.
Martin D. Baka is a talented multidisciplinary musician who started out in a self-taught way. Yoraima Reija, as counterpart, comes from an academic-practical background, having studied classical music and being influenced by her training in gestural theatre.
Attracted by folk and popular music, they have a preference for songs of Latin American and Spanish origin. They are influenced by Bolero, Bossa, Pop, Jazz... and, although they come from very different approaches to learning, they are two sides of the same coin.
Currently, their SENTIMENTAL CONCERT format is the result of two years of research and joint work. A format in which they are committed to transmitting different musical hits in a personal way.
They have participated in festivals such as ‘Noche de la Luna Llena’ and ‘Los Martes en la Muralla’, in Segovia; the music serie ‘A las nueve’, in San Cristóbal de Segovia; and the cultural serie ‘Conciertos Acústicos en Bibliotecas’, in Castilla y León; as well as weddings, parties and private events.
Yoraima Reija Montes (Madrid, 10 January 1996) —flutist, saxophonist, singer and multidisciplinary artist— completed her classical music studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels (2019). Passionate about improvisation and creativity, she delves into a much wider musical universe, studying with artists such as Stefan Bracaval, Michel Massot, Philippe Laloy, Nicola Andrioli, Ariel Bringuez and Ángela Cervantes. A lover of show business, she completed her training in ‘Body, Space and Creation’ at the Pablo Ibarluzea International School (2022). She also teaches improvisation and musical initiation, solfège and transverse flute, always through play and body movement.
Martin D. Baka (Brussels, 21 February 1993) —guitarist and multi-instrumentalist— is a lover of sound experimentation and improvisation. He began his musical journey as a self-taught musician in different regions such as France, New Zealand and the Canary Islands, immersing himself in the local language with different musicians and groups from different regions. He entered the academic world at the M.A.I. school (Nancy) and Jazz Studio (Antwerp). His artistic interests led him to study with musicians such as François Delpote, Guillaume Vierset, Bo Vanderwerf and Michel Massot. He currently teaches modern guitar and works as a music producer in Madrid.
